May 2016 Useletter

Muddy meterGet Ready, Get Set, GO!   It’s May and Bikenridge is getting psyched to start the season.  As we inch closer to June, the anticipation builds.  The spin studios are full and mountain bikers are riding the dirt roads just to be back in the saddle.
It will be a while before our trails are dry, so please, even if you think it’s dry, check trail conditions before you go!  If you really want to get back on the bike, take a spin on the bike path or check out the Frisco Peninsula Long Loop. The Long Loop is generally one of the first ridable trails in the area.

The Dirt
MBMcropIt’s a contagious phenomenon as more and more women/girls are taking advantage of the mountain bike clinics, programs, and rides in the high country.   The lady riders are out and making plans for the season, ordering kits (super cute), scheduling rides, conditioning and getting prepped for the season.  Read More about the Mountain Bike Programs for Women in Summit County.

Are you ready to rumble? It’s time to start planning for the summer season! Will you race the Firecracker 50 this year or how about the Breck Epic? Are you up for the challenge?  Make it an evening race with your buddies at one of the Summit Mountain Challenge Races and the bring the kids!  Even better, make it a destination event with a day of racing and then relax in the mountains with the family.  The possibilities are endless!  Check out the Bikenridge Race and Ride Schedule for the entire race schedule in one location.

May is a month of planning for the summer season, so let’s make a plan!

JUNE 1st – The first race of the Summit Mountain Challenge, the Frisco Roundup presented by Basecamp is June 1st at the Frisco Peninsula.  The Frisco Roundup is one of my favorites.  It is always a good crowd with everyone excited for the season.  Good Energy, Good Course and Great Fun!
JUNE – The Mountain Bike Junior League group rides and races also start in June.  A fantastic opportunity to get the kids on bikes and riding in a group setting. Parents are welcome.
JUNE 2-5th – Wave:  Light +Water+Sound. Make it an early June weekend in Breckenridge! The kids will love this!  I’m excited to see them experience the art, the music and the waterfront installations! Super cool!
JUNE 6thMountain Bike Mondays/ Women with Altitude rides start on Monday, June 6th.  For all ability levels from beginner to racer, these ladies have it covered. Check it out., sign up and be there for the first ride!
JUNE 15th – The Gold Run Rush presented by Lincoln Park at the Wellington Neighborhood is Wednesday, June 15th. One of the more challenging races of the season, but with the best views and after-party!  Are you up for the challenges?
JUNE 22 – 26Breck Bike Week is back! Bike -o-work day, Bike-in Movies and Skill Clinics are just a few of the awesome events!

Behind the Scenes
As you can imagine, there is a lot going on getting ready for the summer season.  The weather in May is bi-polar, but on the good days when it is sunny and 50+ degrees, I am itching to get on my bike!  My favorite trails in Breck are still snow-packed, slushy or muddy, so instantly I think of Salida,CO or Eagle County where you can make a difference and ride on dry dirt!

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read the Bikenridge Useletter.  What would be useful to you?  More ride information? The best Bike Shops? I want to hear from you!
Feel free to share this useletter with your friends.

Enjoy the Climb!
