June can’t get here soon enough!
Seriously! On so many levels, I cannot wait for June, of which include warm sunny days, drier trails( fingers crossed) and kicking off the summer season. In the May Bikenridge Useletter, there is a list of the cool competitive things happening in June and all summer. I think if you are reading this useletter, you are already aware of how bike-centric Breckenridge has become with Breck Bike Week, Summit Mountain Challenge Series, Mountain Bike Mondays, but let’s talk more about the Art-Inspired side of Bikenridge that will entice the family to join you for a week or a fun weekend (with guilt-free afternoon rides included).
Jumpstart June with the WAVE: Light + Water+ Sound June 2 -5th. The area around the Riverwalk and the Arts District will be transformed into the playground for your senses with Music from the NRO, outdoor movies sponsored by the Breckenridge Film Festival, Flyers Aerial Dancers, Pop-up Performances, Late Night Experiments. Check out The Pool, a field of giant concentric circles pad where play and movement create a swirling of light and color. The Light Origami will be fascinating to explore. It’s a life-size 3D kaleidoscope!
There are also indoor installation and lectures. Landscapes is an installation of illuminated boxes that captures the principles of geometrics, light, space, color and dimension, and My Your Our Water, by Erin V. Sotak, multi-platform social engagement project and installation that explores perceptions of water in the community.
Local Artists Spotlight:
Julia Taylor – Artist. Dreamer. Adventurer.
Julia moved to Breckenridge shortly after graduating from college. Here in Breck she lives a life of skiing, backpacking and mountain biking and brings her adventure to life through her art. Her art is colorful, refreshing and inspiring. You can see Julia’s work locally at Arts Alive in La Cima and Breck Bike Guides shop or in person at the Vail Arts Festival, June 24 – 26th. Ben Gordon – Celebrates Color, Texture, and Humor in his art.

Volunteer!
While you are making those amazing summer plans for you and your family, be sure to include a few hours or a day of volunteering. It’s a great way to give back to the community and spend a day in nature. Starting in June, Friends of the Breckenridge Trails has a number of great opportunities to give back. Plant a tree, pull weeds or even go to IMBA Trail Building School!
Behind The Scenes
I am getting out on the trails! Yes, it’s finally time, and although some of the trails are still a bit soggy, there are a few that are ready to ride! Recently, I looped together Bettys>Lower Flume>Mikes>Upper Flume for a great early season ride and workout! Check it out! Also, great road riding this time of year on the streets or the bike path and before the summer crowds. Finally, for July, I have a great spotlight interview in the works and also updating the “Kids Only” page.
