9+ miles, loop, easy to moderate, climbing and downhill
This Map does NOT show the Barney Flow to Carter Park segment. It takes you down Moonstone and back to town.
Good to Know: This is a popular route for locals and tourists. Expect pedestrian/vehicular traffic. Good views at the top of Sallie Barber and great down hill on Barney Ford.
Parking: From I70, drive south of Hwy 9 to Breckenridge. Turn left on Lincoln Ave. Right on High Street. Drive down High Street to the end at Carter Park. This is a loop ride so you will end up at Carter Park.
Description: Starting at Carter Park take High Street North to Wellington Rd. Turn right on Wellington Rd. and proceed to the last stop sign and veer right onto French Gulch Rd. French Gulch Rd. will be paved for about a 1/2 mile and then turns to dirt. The ride up French Gulch is a good warm up. At approx. 3 miles there is Trailhead parking on the right. Sallie Barber trail is just past the parking lot on the right. A good steady climb to the top with great views and the historic Sallie Barber mine. Proceed to the top and continue down the south side. The dirt trail is wide and rocky at times. Continue for approx. 3 miles. The trail intersects Sallie Barber Rd. cross over the pavements and look for trail markers. Just beyond the paved insertion on the right is the upper Barney Ford Trail. A super fun and moderately challenge trail with switch backs, single track and flowy berms at the bottom. The trail crosses Moonstone. The Barney Ford turns into a preferred uphill trail only SHORTLY after it crosses Moonstone. The Barney FLOW trail (downhill only) is on your right. Super fun, flowing downhill with lots of optional features. Barney Flow will take you to the top of the Carter Park Switchbacks. Take the Carter Park switchbacks down to the parking area.
